| | Ayurveda –the science of a long | | | Ayurveda is part of the Vedic science that was first glimpsed by the wise ones and seers of ancient India many thousands of years ago in the silence of their meditations. This holistic natural healing system has experienced a renaissance over the last twenty years and is spreading throughout the world. A modern version is called Maharishi Ayurveda. It encompasses numerous therapies which, until a few years ago, had been forgotten or were only partially being applied. |

Man, nature and the cosmos are one
One of the fascinating basic principles of Ayurveda medicine is the teaching of the three Doshas – psychophysiological regulation principles, which according to the teaching of Ayurveda, penetrate the whole of life and of course our own spirit, body and being. Man, nature and the cosmos are indivisibly connected in a perpetual correlation with each other.
Vata transmits motion, vitality, alertness, transport and perception.
Pitta represents metabolism, combustion, heat regulation and temperament. Kapha describes the material basis of our being: built, structure and shape, form, solid and fluid components of our organism.
Put in a nutshell: if the three bio-energies Vata, Pitta and Kapha are balanced, then we are healthy. Should the three Doshas become unbalanced, then we suffer from mental and physical complaints and illnesses. The primary goal of Ayurveda therapies is to maintain or regain the harmony between the three Doshas. To achieve this, Maharashi Ayurveda makes use of a wide range of fascinating and in part highly effective therapies and treatments. |

Pulse diagnosis
A speciality of the medicinal art in Ayurveda is the pulse diagnosis. The trained Ayurveda doctor can not only feel the interplay of the three Doshas but also the more subtle energy impulses that are at the heart of illness and physical/mental imbalances. This technique makes it possible to understand and treat the root cause of an illness. |

From simple home remedies
to differentiated therapies
Herbal remedies, sound or music therapy or
the ‘Pancha Karma Therapy’ – a physical-
nutritional purification therapy that typically
runs a week or two in the hospital or at home
under doctor’s supervision – alongside a healthy diet, a balanced life in rhythm with nature
and a path to self-knowledge through yoga
and meditation, lead to a fundamental change and renewal. However, even simple home
remedies can often work miracles and also cost next to nothing to use. |

Effective home remedies against colds
An effective routine for the cold and flu type illnesses that are especially prevalent in autumn and winter. Your doctor’s treatment of illnesses such as coughing, blocked and runny nose, fever, bronchitis and sinusitis can be
effectively supported in the following way:
Hot water: boil good quality drinking water for ten minutes in a saucepan with the lid off, leave for two minutes to allow the lime scale to settle, then fill a thermos with the water and drink a small amount every 15 minutes. This drink cure is also effective against fever. It loosens mucus, encourages perspiration thereby bringing down the fever and supporting the body’s own detoxification efforts. |
|
Choose one of the following infusions:
At the first sign of fever: Add 1 tablespoon ground ginger, 1 tablespoon coriander seeds, 1 tsp cumin seeds (from spice shop or chemist) to 200 ml water. Simmer until 50 ml of liquid remains. Drink half in the evening before going to bed and the rest cold the next morning. This is a highly effective remedy for flu-like infections, especially if treated early.
Add 1 tablespoon fresh ginger (from greengrocer),
1 tablespoon liquorice root (from chemist), 1 tablespoon yellow root powder (specialist spice shop) to
3/4 litre water and boil for 20 minutes. Strain and place in a thermos. Drink small cupfuls throughout the day. This is effective against coughs, it promotes perspiration
and reduces fever. It is also an anti-inflammatory that strengthens the immune system. |
